Drivers that " took the extra mile"

Have you ever met drivers who "took an extra mile" such that they drove away from the original route to another road to let down passengers?

So far, I only encountered once on tibs sv 67 years back. It was a Sunday night, the bus was not a bendy and was quite packed. The bus was travelling towards cck. There were few eldery who were not sure how to reach a particular place. The bus driver turned the bus into Bedok Reservoir View, let them down ,U-turn back into Bedok Resevoir Road, and continued like normal.

Anyone have similar encounters?

Wah,Lucky nobody keen to nudge on him man,As it is illegal to do things like that AFAIK.Extra mile doesn't mean you had to reroute or detour like that,Sufficient with your courteous,Considerate and safety manners. Very Happy

got once i was on Bus 66 from bukit timah towards Serangoon Road
massive jam......horrible jam.......
the bus drive went up the viaduct at newton circus there......cos the jam was at the roundabout down there......
no passengers made any noise or wat.......

Cool! Cool I guess sometimes drivers need to be flexible according to the traffic conditions they encounter. Its not always good to keep to the timesheet or the route all the time

Ex Service 950.

This bus was the ex-DAF which are now on CSS. Near Orchard Area, the door spoiled. The bus made a u-turn to get back to the previous stop. Then, we transffered to an old Air-Con Hino

seems that svc 170 drivers deviate from their routes occasionally in JB when traffic jams occur; they just zip to an alternative road to/from the checkpoint.

if i remember the date correctly, there was a newspaper article last year that commended one SBST svc 182 driver who dropped a woman off at Tuas Checkpoint en route to Tuas South even though the trip wasn't a svc 182X (ie detour via checkpoint) coz she went up to the BC and told him that she had missed the last bus of 182X. she wrote in to ST and e driver got praised for, well, "going the extra mile".

I thought 182X times were when 182 was Boon Lay - Tuas route and 183 was still there?

Aha,This is one kind of different cases where the commuter commendate you for that as it is not beyond 182 routes(182#).
Special cases too for 170 especially to the great jams at Woodlands/JB. Very Happy

what if there are other passengers in the bus, they went on to the "extra mile" at the expense of other passengers' time.... i think that's quite risky... might stir up yet another complaint instead of earning a compliment...

Well, there were a lot of other passengers on board. None complained , just amazed as how come the bus turned into Bedok Reservoir View. It was quite a distance into the new estate from the main road.

182 plies Tuas Checkpoint during certain times of day, no change in route whatsoever.

182X is basically e same as 182, just that it makes a small detour to stop at Tuas Checkpoint
